FIRST WORD
A case of perfect timing for Preview 2010
Foreword
Chris Murphy
Timing, as they say, is everything. And in some respects, it couldn't really be better for next week's Preview 2010. There are lots of issues to be addressed in serious detail over the two-day event - a great deal of ground to cover for everyone involved in the business and much to mull over.

Gross profit tax is just one of those thorny topics that will have everyone venturing an opinion. The impact on the business following on from the stake and prize increase is another area for intense debate. Then there's the Gambling Commission's pursuit of tighter SWP policy to consider. It all goes to prove that there's never really a dull day in coin-op!
So Preview should, at the very least, afford the perfect environment to conduct a rudimentary health check on the business, put a finger on the pulse, monitor the temperature and ensure all the vital signs are there. And the prognosis should become much clearer when we see what's going to be on the show floor in terms of new product available and by the quality and quantity of visitors walking in the aisles.

In terms of product, if we take our cue from what's featured throughout the following pages, then evidently there's no shortage of ideas and innovations to look forward to. And we're sure that there are going to be a few surprises when the Howards open the Novotel doors for business next Wednesday.

The show should also present an ideal opportunity to do some serious crystal ball gazing as the industry begins to gear up for what many hope will turn out to be a busy New Year period. There's the not so small matter of a new exhibition in January and that's bound to have everyone pondering how it will affect the dynamics of the business at what is always a crucial buying period.

These are interesting times for the business and Preview, as always, is perfectly positioned to reflect exactly that.

Fullhouse for Preview
Positively Charged
Preview 2010

Thanks to the concerted efforts of show organisers Philip and Ylva Howard, this year's Preview exhibition is now fully booked and set to attract a strong turnout of domestic and international buyers.

The Preview show is registering a full compliment of exhibitors - a positive sign for everyone involved in the coin-op industry. This, combined with the data showing that pre-registrations for this year's event are up by over 30 per cent this year, proves that Preview 2010 will truly be an unmissable event.

'I won't pretend that this has not been a challenging year for us, in the same way as it has been for our customers,' said Philip Howard, show organiser. 'YIva and I have been working flat out with our team in order to ensure that we continue to offer the best quality service to our exhibitors and the most pleasant possible show experience to our visitors.'

Summer 2009 saw the introduction of the new £70 jackpot for Category C AWPs and Preview 2010 will be the first proper opportunity for the UK industry to get together and review the performance of the new machines. Preview is also enthused by the attendance of leading UK operator Gamestec which is also exhibiting at the show.

'All the decision-makers, leading designers and top operators will be at Preview, the conversation on the stands, in the aisles and at the bars and restaurants will be electric. A much clearer picture of the health of the industry will emerge, together with the direction that many leading companies plan to take over the next 12 months,' Howard added.

But it won't just be about the UK AWP sector - visitors can expect to see a strong turnout of overseas buyers at the London Novotel West. This year's Preview show has attracted more international pre-registrations than ever before. In total, online, post and fax pre-registrations for the exhibition, which takes place on October 7 and 8, are well up on last year.

'What is really exciting is that we have received requests for tickets from visitors from countries that we have not welcomed before,' said Ylva Howard. 'In fact, there are six new countries that have pre-registered this year. Visitors will be attending from Cyprus, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Slovenia and Switzerland.'

With leading amusement companies promising to unveil machines at Preview 2010 that have never been seen before, it is understandable that buyers are keen to get a glimpse of product direction before the January shows.

'Sega is hoping to use Preview to finalise agreements with distribution partners and this highlight on of the trends we are finding,' Philip Howard concluded. 'Because of the great transport links, great timing after summer and comfortable surroundings at Novotel London West, every year we see decision-makers from all sectors of the industry - including the casino sector - descend on Preview because they know they will get answers, see new products and network, all without having to make a massive investment in time or money.'
