  Show Report Preview 2009 4 of 5
Coinslot No. 2076 October 10 - October 16 2008

JAYBOX
Ringing The Changes At Jaybox
Richard Elsy of Jaybox took time out at Preview to explain some of the changes that have been made to the firm’s 3G digital jukebox. “Basically we’ve been very happy with the 3G connection we’ve been working on,” he said. “We’ve modified some software in order to get that right and we’ve now got to the position where if the signal is lost it will reacquire that signal without the need to reboot the whole machine.” Elsy is pictured with Doug Hession.

PLAYSAFE MONITORING
Loyalty Is Key
Once again demonstrating its tailored solutions that provide secure monitoring, data analysis and customer loyalty, Playsafe Monitoring came to Preview 2009 on the back of securing a lucrative contract with Mecca Bingo. Managing director David Stenning was pleased to be able to catch up with existing customers and bring them up to speed with the firm’s latest product developments, as well as meet several potential new clients. Stenning reported a lot of interest in Playsafe’s card-based loyalty system, which was exhibited alongside the firm’s wireless data capture and cashless machine operating systems.

QPS
Preview Bucks The Trend Says Wilson
Club products featured strongly in QPS’ Preview portfolio this year, notably Club Clouseau, pictured here with the firm’s Paul Wilson. In terms of reference to the show itself, he told Coinslot: “I’m pleasantly surprised at how busy and buoyant the show seemed. The stake andprize review is causing manufacturers to hold fire on new launches - under normal circumstances there would be significant launches - but that hasn’t stopped people coming to Preview.”

REGAL ARCADES
Raising The Stakes
Positioned on Regent Arcades’ stand, Big Tony’s PokerKard has lofty expectations from its manufacturer Nova Productions. The firm’s Jeff Fannon described PokerKard as ‘the new pool’. He qualified this statement by explaining that the touch-screen table-top game is ideal for the pub audience as not only can four players join in simultaneously, but they can rest their beer glasses on the table top without any danger of causing damage to the product. An amusement-only product, PokerKard sees players battling for points, rather than cash.

JPM INTERNATIONAL
A Different Approach
As well as affirming its commitment to the UK market, JPM International also premiered a number of products from its Crystal Leisure rebuild brand, including a Lo Tech video AWP, Easy Money and two Category B4 games, Rise And Shine and Horses For Courses. Sales and marketing director Simon McCarthy commented: “Easy Money represents a different strategy for Crystal, being its first video product. With Rise And Shine housed in the Electra cabinet and Horses For Courses in the Frontier cabinet we are giving operators more choice in terms of the deals they can get for base equipment, important as everybody looks to maximise their return on investment.”

MDM
Positive Outlook But More Help Needed
Mark Lewis of distribution firm MDM was among many on the show floor at Preview who were determined to put a positive emphasis on the business. “We’ve got some fantastic product available right now and hopefully we can turn this into sales,” he said. He did, however, take the opportunity to send out another message to the government that the industry requires more assistance from policy makers. “The government must be told that we still need something to help the business - we need something we can work with.”

RLMS SALES
Market Still Thirsty For Licensed Games
According to Tony Glanville of RLMS, there are many issues still up in the air for the coin-op business, including the triennial review, but maintains that there is still a wealth strong product available to the industry. He cited the Deal or No Deal pusher that has been out on test, saying: “It has brought new money into sites and hasn’t detracted from the AWP take.” He added: “And with products like Barcrest’s Star Wars coming through it’s clear that there is a thirst in the market for licensed products.”

REFLEX GAMING
Pole Position
Reflex Gaming’s new suite of AWPs bearing the iconic Stringfellows licence took a prominent position on the company’s stand. Offering a different style of presentation to other Category C games, Stringfellows Party Nights is a six-reel machine where bottom game wins can be gambled off on the top three reels. Currently out on test, Reflex managing director Quentin Stott revealed that early indications for the game were very good. Party Nights was joined by Pole Position and Angels, both designed for the Club sector. On acquiring the Stringfellows licence, Stott commented: “While we acknowledge it won’t go into every site, it follows in the footsteps of Bally’s Playboy licence and has been well-received across the board.”

RICHARD CROMPTON SALES
A New Take On Nostalgia
Sharing a stand with Game Concepts, Richard Crompton Sales was showcasing a newly modified version of the classic pusher, Rock‘n’ Roll Legend. Saturated in 1950s nostalgia, the huge Rock ‘n’ Roll legend machine has been on the market for a number of years. In an effort to bolster the product’s longevity, the latest version now contains a roller system which propels coins to the back of the main play area. In addition, the newly modified cabinet now boasts a larger display area for merchandise, as well as a lower cash pickup tray. “The small, subtle changes provide this evergreen platform with even more mass-market appeal,” said director Richard Crompton.

SAM LEISURE
Sam Signs Off Big Show Order
Coventry-based Sam Leisure was the only exhibitor at Preview representing the cue sport and table game sector of the coin-op business. The firm showed off its Magno and K Steel tables alongside a neat range of football tables. Pleasingly for the firm, it signed off a significant order on the opening day of the show. Pictured are Gary Drage and Liam Barrett as they demonstrate how their tables stand up to the toughest of use.
