Show Report Preview 2009 5 of 5 Coinslot No. 2076 October 10 - October 16 2008
SEGA Steve D’Arcy Makes Sega Debut Sega always like to go into a major amusement exhibition on the back of a big announcement and this year’s Preview exhibition was no exception following the news that the firm is to sell direct to the market. Ergo it was a perfect opportunity to unveil the latest addition to the sales team, former PMT man Steve D’Arcy. He is pictured with Justin Burke, newly promoted to head of sales at Sega.
SMS-VIP Textual Healing While admitting that the UK coin-op industry is SMS-VIP’s core market, managing director Philip Closier explained to Coinslot that to grow his business he is looking at other markets outside the domestic pay-to-play scene. One area that Closier is particularly interested in is Bluetooth marketing, particularly with reference to serving the bingo and LBO sectors. “Of course, sending out Bluetooth messages can be problematic if they end up in the hands of minors, so it would have to be something that adult bingo players or patrons of betting shops would have to opt into.”
SPP GROUP More Than Just A Printer Holding over 30 years experience of supplying graphics and printed solutions to the coin-op industry, SPP Group made its debut outing at Preview with an exquisitely designed and feature-packed stand. For SPP sales director Jackie Wilson, it was all about demonstrating the firm’s full spectrum of services: “We want to show people the full range of products that we can supply, because too often we get categorised as being a screen printer that only does fruit machine glasses or as sheet metal workers that just bang out metal brackets. As our stand demonstrates here, we have so much more to offer, not just for manufacturers but for arcade owners, operators and everyone else in the point-of-sale category.”
UDC Redeeming Qualities Of UDC Range It’s no great secret that UDC has been majoring on the redemption genre for some time now in a bid to inject some much-needed family entertainment back into the business. According to the firm’s Derek Horwood, those operators who have invested in redemption have experienced less of a downturn in trade. He is pictured here with a brand new game called Red Hot
VEGAS IMPORTS Gaining Momentum The award-winning Black Horse and Black Horse Exclusive gaming machines were ably demonstrated on the Vegas Imports stand. Despite have only entered the coin-op market 18 months ago, the firm’s Chris Newby revealed that the momentum for both products continued to grow. With trading in the UK static across the board, Newby said that export markets in the Czech Republic, Germany and Malta where still very healthy.
TAB AUSTRIA Fun And Music TAB Austria showed a number of products intended for the UK market that had already made considerable inroads overseas. Fun For Four, for example, is a multi-touchtable top compilation of amusement games. Including the likes of MahJong, Poker and relatively complex quiz games, the machine could easily be sited in pubs, arcades or FECs. Arguably the firm’s showpiece, however, was Max Fire, a digital jukebox which is distributed by AMG Leisure. Max Fire now has the added functionality of ‘Music To Go’ which is effectively an option for customers to buy tracks from the jukebox, via a USB dongle or Bluetooth.
SB MACHINES LEISURE Testing The Waters Three key products took centre stage on SB Machines Leisure’s stand, as the Italian kiddie rides distributor prepares for what is expected to be a “very successful” ATEI in January. In addition to the existing Magic Safe product, SB has rolled out Big 7, an innovative skill vending machine designed by VdW of Belgium. The product is set to hit the UK market next week, and will be fully rolled out in time for the London show. The company’s Paolo Sidoli told Coinslot the company’s newly launched kiddie ride, Miami, manufactured by Cogan, was also proving to be highly successful.
SOUND LEISURE Old And New Combine To Great Effect Digital pay-to-play music really did exist as far back as 1988, as proved by Sound Leisure who decided to invest in a little nostalgia at Preview 2009. The firm brought a digital jukebox first shown 20 years ago which contrasted perfectly with its latest bang up-to-date version of the Milestones In Music box. Pictured with the thoroughly modern take on digital music is Sound Leisure’s Chris Black.
WESSEX COIN LIMITED Something On The Horizon For a show that stakes its name on companies bringing never-before-seen products to exhibit, Wessex Coin certainly didn’t disappoint, with a prototype of Games Media’s latest Club machine, Andy Capp, taking pride of place amongst its line-up. The first Club machine to be housed in the Horizon cabinet, Wessex Coin’s Mike Knight and Karl Prismall reported that it had received very favourable reaction from visitors. The company also brought a range of second-hand product in order to demonstrate the high standard of equipment those operators buying to budget could expect.
